As vice president of Post Insurance Services, John Post wears many hats. He oversees the day-to-day management of the agency, handling all hiring, training and development of the team, as well as administering and implementing office policies and procedures. He is also a field agent, providing personalized insurance solutions to individuals and businesses throughout California. His clients include large contractors, property owners, manufacturers, distributors, software developers, delivery fleets, entertainment companies and Internet startups. After graduating from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1984, John joined his father and brother at the agency. He never intended to pursue a career in insurance but found the industry to be dynamic and the job to be rewarding. John explains, "Every client has a unique need and every phone call seems to present a different challenge. I enjoy the variety as well as the range of customer profiles and personalities. Besides that, the company has always been a great place to work, and I like being part of the family business." Today, John is the go-to guy at the agency. He works with a diverse mix of clients in all lines of coverage, including group medical and benefits, workers' compensation, life insurance and all aspects of property and casualty insurance. He holds dual licenses in benefits and commercial lines, has earned his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and is currently working on securing the Certified Insurance Specialist in Construction (CISC) designation. "Most of my clients probably aren't aware of how much I know about their business," says John. "I take a hands-on approach, making sure to understand exactly what they do, knowing the details and providing the right coverage." John appreciates the challenge of taking a referral or phone call, investigating what coverage the client has and what they need, then finding a suitable match with a carrier. In his words, "Many of my larger clients are aware of who their underwriters are. They know their names, where they work, what they do, what they're looking for, and how we keep them happy. I enjoy cultivating a strong tie between the client and the carrier. I feel this level of communication helps foster a more long-term relationship." Unlike many brokers who disappear after renewal, John prides himself on being involved and engaged in the management of each client. That's because he believes integrity is everything. "When they engage clients, it has to be perfect. They may not engage every time because they trust me, but when they do, it has to be right. My staff and I work on every renewal until it is flawless," says John. "I like building a relationship that reaches beyond insurance policies. Some clients never let you get there, but if they do, it's very special." John lives in California with his wife and three daughters, Rachel, Abby and Emma. When he's not working, he enjoys coaching his daughters' soccer team, teaching Sunday school, playing tennis and traveling with his family.
