Thirty years in the same job may seem like a long time, unless you are growing professionally and doing what you enjoy. Such is the case for Dan Post, who helped grow a small insurance operation into one of largest family-owned independent agencies in the region. Dan's father, James Post, started the agency in 1954. After graduating from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in history, Dan began working for his dad part time. While working, he was pursuing an MBA in graduate school. As time went on, Dan discovered that insurance piqued his interest and the agency was a great place to work. He enjoyed the environment so much that he decided to make it a career. In 1983, he earned his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. Today, as president of Post Insurance Services, Dan is responsible for all facets of the business – sales, service, marketing, administration and the agency's strategic direction. Although he leads the company, Dan continues to be a field agent, growing his own book of business. His areas of expertise include construction, manufacturing and technology, high tech, bio sciences and meeting the unique insurance needs of high net worth clients. "I've been through several insurance cycles in the last 30 years," says Dan. "Using my experience and niche expertise, I focus on taking the mystery and headache out of insurance issues for my clients." Dan's extensive industry knowledge and vast experience undoubtedly contributes to the strength and stability of Post Insurance. But Dan believes "listening more than talking" plays a vital role in his agency's success. "Each business has its own unique issues and exposures. One type of policy or cookie cutter approach is not going to work for all," explains Dan. "I'm committed to solving my client's problems. By listening more than talking, I can find the best solution and design a cost-effective policy that includes the proper protection." Dan appreciates the opportunity to build upon the agency his father built. He looks forward to the future and the continuing growth of the agency. "I'm in it for the long haul – and my commitment is to both the agency and my clients," says Dan. Dan lives in Rolling Hills, Calif., with his wife, Hillary, three sons and a multitude of pets. When he's not working, he's coaching his sons' sports teams, cheering for the Dodgers, golfing, surfing and playing beach volleyball.
